I incorporate individual and group psychotherapy as a support mechanism to enable medical procedures to achieve and maintain maximum effectiveness. I utilize a cognitive/behavioral approach to lifestyle changes and reinforce this with support groups and individual counseling to assist clients in achieving environmental paradigm shifts in relationship to their world.
Weight loss surgery has become a more readily prescribed and effective remedy for weight loss. It provides clients with a powerful tool for success, but it is not a cure.
Initially, surgery seems to be a “cure-all”, yet clients soon find that if the urge to eat leaves them at all, it will inevitably return after the honeymoon period. Clients may struggle with desires to return to previous life coping mechanisms using food to self-medicate or alter feeling states. Clients may struggle with complicated psychological matters including body image disorders, binge eating disorder, depression and low self-esteem as well as other complicated psychological issues. These challenges will impact their ability to maintain long term weight loss and recovery. I will provide additional tools to support weight loss surgery goals and to accomplish individual goals. Intervention is directed at the challenges faced by each individual client to pinpoint the most effective treatment. This tailored approach enables you to stay focused in your pursuit of health and wellnessand to facilitate the objectives of physical balance, modification of eating patterns and post-operative adjustment to a new way of life. You are supported by new coping skills, resources to facilitate change, education and ongoing monitoring of psychological issues that may surface over time.
